This was at the Australian Anatolian Community Services Co-op at 50 Susan St Auburn. They described their objectives as embracing people from the broad general region of Turkey which they name as Anatolia. They emphasise inclusiveness, social justice and democracy. They want to engage and respect all communities within this broad diaspora.
The event celebrated and honoured women workers of the world with a social gathering including speeches, poetry, music, song and varied food of Anatolia. They have a choir, which didn’t sing on this occasion, and some women musicians who played and sang and led some singalong.
We opened the entertainment about 2:30pm with five songs:
- La lega crescera
- Piece by piece
- Sell your labour not your soul
Our introductions were short and simple, and they were fluently translated by our hosts for the benefit of the Turkish speaking audience.
